This research was planned and conducted to determine the relationship between parental
attitudes and behavior and the family's ability to adapt to unity and change, and to
examine the effects of socioeconomic and demographic factors on family functioning,
attitudes and behaviors. Within the scope of the research, 450 families living together and
having at least one healthy child in the 0-6 age group selected by stratified sampling
method from the central districts of Ankara were included. Research data; Parental
Attitude scale to determine the attitudes and behaviors of parents as parents, Family
Adaptability and Cohesion Scale IV to determine the functionality of family relations,
and socioeconomic and demographic information about families were collected through
a questionnaire. Data obtained from families were analyzed using SPSS 26 and R
program. As a result of the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test applied to determine the normality
distribution in the analysis of the data, it was determined that the data were not normally
distributed. Therefore, from non-parametric tests; Mann–Whitney U test was used for
bivariate tests, Kruskal-Wallis Test for analysis of dependent and independent variables,
Friedman test for two dependent variables, and Chi-square analysis for variable
determination. As a result of the research, it was found that as the socioeconomic level of
the district of residence increases, parents have a liberal parental attitude, as the age of
the father increases, negligent and authoritarian parental attitudes, and those with a large
number of children and young children have an overprotective parental attitude (p<0,05).
It has been determined that as the socioeconomic level of the residential district increases,
the unity in family functions and the ability to adapt to change are chaotic, and they show
a balanced adaptation with the increase in the total income of the household. It has been
observed that there is a statistically significant relationship between the unity in family
functions and the ability to adapt to change and the level of perceived income (p<0,05).
It has been determined that there is a balanced unity in the realization of family functions
in families with a democratic parental attitude, and a balanced flexible family unity and
harmony in families with an authoritarian parental attitude. It has been determined that
there is a statistically significant relationship between parental attitudes and family unity
in terms of family functions and the ability to adapt to change (p<0,05).
