In organic chemistry, compounds with hydrazone structures have the potential to be applied in various fields. One of these application areas is molecular photoswitching. Many hydrazone compounds with different functional groups are used as molecular photoswitches. These interesting functional molecules, which can be converted from one state or isomer to another state or isomer by light, continue to be intensively researched and developed. Along with the different functional groups of the compounds, different obstacles and complex structure-property relationships occur in the formation of photoswitchable molecules.
In this thesis, hydrazone derivatives (4a-4g) with oxalohydrazide structure were synthesized. The structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, MS, and FT-IR spectra. Photoswitching of the obtained compounds was carried out under UV light (300-400 nm). The 1H-NMR and UV-vis spectra of the compounds were interpreted and the changes in the structures were examined and it is expected that the compounds 4a and 4e could be used as possible photoswitches after further studies are completed.
