Digital techniques used in ceramics are generally studied with two different approaches. While images / photos transferred to ceramic surfaces represent a two dimensional digital print, the production of a three dimesional form with 3D ceramic printers with clay represents a 3D digital print. In this study, both types of applied studies are carried out and the whole process from the design process to the taking of the results is explained with photographs in detail.
In the first and second sections of the thesis, primarily the definition and examples of digital art are emphasized, not only in the field of ceramics but also it’s usage in the fields of plastic arts is mentioned.
In the third chapter, techniques used in 3D printer technologies are mentioned and the history of this technology in the near past, and the areas in which it was used are explained. By paying more attention to the techniques used with ceramic material, artists who work in this field and their works were included.
In the last part, 2 and 3 dimensional digital printing applications are given. Digital printing applications on hand-shaped ceramics with traditional methods were made. The images designed in computer and printed on the decals were applied to glazed ceramic surfaces. In the 3D printer technologies that different techniques are used, under the scope of the research, studies have been made with Laser Sintering and Deposition technologies which are the most suitable method for the ceramic material structure.
