Case markers are grammatical constructs that establish tentative conceptual relationships between nouns and verbs, or, rarely, noun phrases. These markers, which are considered under the case category, are important in terms of sentence structure analysis, as they have various duties and functions in sentence construction. In this thesis, the case category was examined in the Kirghiz example, based on the Manas Epos. The aim of the study is to reveal the roles of the case category in the formation of the Kirghiz sentence.
In the study, the concept of case is explained within the framework of the literature, and the differences in approach to the category in question are evaluated by limiting them to Turkish and Kirghiz grammars. The study is intended to be functional. For this reason, the use of case suffixes in the Manas Epos has been determined in the analysis part and the examples have been compiled by considering their functional features.
As a result of the study, it has been determined that the case markers in Kirghiz have many different functions on the sample sentences obtained from the epos text. It is envisaged that these results will lead to various interpretations of the features that bring Kirghiz language closer or further away from historical and contemporary Turkic languages in terms of case category. Resources about the Kirghiz category provide general information. However, independent studies focusing on the subject are lacking. With this thesis, it has been tried to contribute to the elimination of this deficiency.
