Mikrobiyal Yakıt Hücrelerinde Membran ve İşletme Şartlarındaki Değişimin Güç Üretimine Etkisi
Abstract
Cation exchange membranes (CEM) have been shown in previous studies to cause some operational problems in MFCs. In this thesis, performance of a MFC with different membranes and without a CEM is investigated. For this purpose three different ion exchange membranes (CMI-7000S, Selemion CMF and Selemion HSF) and non-CEM MFC (carbon sheet) was used in a H type MFC. When the MFCs performances with different separators were arranged by their maximum power density, these results from high to low were HSF, non-CEM MFC, CMF and CMI. Also; when low pH solutions were used in the cathode chamber; reducing the internal resistance in a MFC improved the power production by %30 compared to neutral pH. On the other hand, when nitrate was used as the electron acceptor in an abiotic cathode in a MFC, by reducing the nitrate concentration from 310 mg L to 12 mg L, a maximum of %96 of decrease in the nitrate removal rate, a decrease of %59 in current production and %50 in coulomb efficiency was observed.
