Abstract

The change and transformation of cities began with modernism, gained momentum with globalization and neo-liberalism. Today, this change and transformation is still ongoing. Although change is often inevitable, the changing urban image causes a loss of memory over time. At this point, art is almost protecting the urban memory on the one hand, and on the other hand, it is witnessing the dramatic changes of cities. ‘‘The relationship of urban memory in contemporary art, entitled’’ report; the identity of the city took place in urban and strategic importance in terms of memory, and converted and modified for a variety of reasons, or even destroyed; historical, cultural, geographical locations, individual, society has created and has been made into the effects that these effects on memory and reflections on the art of investigated. The relationship between the city and memory; space, nature, individual, power, affinity, etc. based on the concepts of ‘urban memory’ and ‘‘tracking urban memory’’, documents/records/witnesses about the past and present of the city were referenced and artistic applications were made to make urban memory visible. Emphasizing the image of the city that is gradually being destroyed or destroyed; one of the primary goals has been to focus on the places we live in, to trace the urban memory and to protect the urban memory through the implementations. Therefore, architectural elements about the city, spaces, social events, memories, etc. documentation /archiving studies have been carried out by examining all the stakeholders who were involved in the project and who could create urban memory.
