Abstract

This study focuses on developing metacognitive awareness with a cognitive approach in the design process, within the context of creativity. In other words, the aim of the study is to increase knowledge on mental activities that take place during the design process and to convey this knowledge to the designer. A comprehensive literature review of rational and cognitive design approaches forms the basis for the methodology of this study. There are two main models of these approaches: knowledge processing act and problem solving act. These main models are analyzed and categorized into five subtopics: (i) problem oriented, (ii) solution oriented, (iii) information interpretation oriented, (iv) information processing oriented, and (v) information recalling oriented models.
