Modifiye Montmorillonit ve Bunların Kullanıldığı Biyobozunur Nanokompozit Tarımsal Örtü Filmlerinin Üretimi
Abstract
This work has been accomplished with the support from SANTEZ project number 00875.STZ.2011-1 titled "Development of Biobased/Biodegradable/Compostable Nanocomposite Mulch Films". In this study, montmorillonite clay, most commonly used filler material composed of layered silicates, and two organo modified forms of it (ODA-MMT and DMDA-MMT) were used for production of nanocomposites with starch and L-lactic acid polimers which are natural/bio-based and biodegradable. It was aimed to produce mulch films from nanocomposites of copolymers prepared by graft copolymerisation of starch and L-LA in the presence of pristine and organomodified montmorillonite clays, for agricultural applications. For this purpose, a series of clay modification studies were carried out in the first step. L-LA monomers were polymerized by condensation polymerisation under optimized conditions in the presence of pristine and pre-intercalated MMT clays with different MMT/L-LA weight ratios. At the end of these studies, MMT/oligo-LA nanofillers were characterized by chemical (FTIR, 1H-NMR), thermal (DSC, TGA) and physical (XRD, SEM, TEM) analysis. Selected nano filler materials were used in the second step for synthesis of nanocomposite copolymer structures. These nanofillers were used in different weight ratios for graft copolymerisation of L-LA on starch in order to synthesize PLLA-g-starch. These graft copolymers were characterized by (FTIR, 1H-NMR), thermal (DSC, TGA) and physical (XRD, SEM, TEM) analyses. Copolymers were compression molded and films were prepared and mechanical and barrier properties of these films were investigated.
