The aim of this study was to examine the effects of diabetes awareness training and pilates exercises on health-related physical fitness parameters in individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Study planned randomized, controlled and assessor-blinded. 50 individuals who were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and who were eligible for inclusion criteria were included. The patients were randomly divided into two groups as Pilates and control group. Pilates groups were included in the Pilates program for three times a week. The control group received a home program of relaxation and breathing exercises. Health-related physical fitness; with waist circumference measurement, hip circumference measurement, waist hip ratio, six minute walking test, sit access test and grip strength, Core stability; with lateral bridge test, trunk flexion test, "prone bridge" test, modified ‘’Biering-Sorensen’’ test, ‘’Sit-ups’’ test, Modified ‘’Push-up’’ test, Physical activity level; with İnternational physical activity questionnaire, diabetes information; with diabetes knowledge test, diabetes stress levels; with diabetes stress questionnaire the quality of life; with Short Form-36 were evaluated. As a result of Pilates training, it was found that physical fitness parameters, core stability, diabetes knowledge levels improved (p <0.05), diabetes stress levels decreased (p <0.05), physical activity levels and quality of life increased (p <0.05). In light of these results, applied 3 times a week for 8 weeks Pilates in Type 2 diabetes; to be effective in health-related physical fitness parameters, core stability, physical activity level, diabetes knowledge and diabetes stress levels and quality of life.
