dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study is to examine the metacognitive awareness, the higher order thinking process that includes planning, managing the information, monitoring, debug and evaluating, of pre- service English language teachers in terms of grade level, willingness of selecting teaching profession and performing teaching profession after graduation. The sample of the study consists of the 1st year ELT students at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Education. The metacognitive awareness inventory for data collection was developed by Schraw and Dennison ( 1994) and conducted to Turkish setting by Akin, Abaci and Cetin (2007) and Baysal, Ayvaz, Cekirdekci, and Malbelegi (2013). The results have shown that they have almost positive attitudes towards their metacognitive awareness in their academic studies. At the end of the study some recommendations are made for foreign language teachers and teacher educators. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd. | |
