Ceza Infaz Kurumunda Sunulan Hemşirelik Hizmetlerinin Kadınların Sağlık Davranışları ve Fiziksel Sağlık Düzeylerine Etkisinin Değerlendirilmesi
Abstract
Females placed in a Correctional Institution (CI) have more physical health problems compared to the general public and their male counterparts. Thus, they require more healthcare services in the CI and nursing services in particular. CI nurses also have the opportunity to teach protecting and improving health behaviors to these women who are difficult to reach in the community. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nursing services provided in CIs on the health behaviors and physical health levels of females. The quasi-experimental study was conducted on 30 female subjects. In this study were used the "nursing diagnosis numbers", "knowledge, behavior and status points" and "Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II points" to evaluate the nursing services. Statistical analyses were performed using numbers, percentages, means, medians, standard deviations, and the Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon and McNemar tests. We found mostly physiological problems (oral health, digestion-hydration, circulation, reproductive function, discomfort / pain and respiration) and to a lesser extent health behavior problems (nutrition, health care supervision, physical activity, substance use, sleep and rest patterns) in the subjects. Nursing services provided in the course of the study resulted in a positive effect on the knowledge, behavior and status points regarding the physiological and health behaviors of the subjects (p˂0.05). At the end of the study, it was found that nursing services provided in CIs have a positive effect on the health behaviors and physical health levels of the females.
