Sivas’ta Sünnet Merasimleri ve Kirvelik Kurumu

Abstract

This study, which investigates the circumcision ceremonies and the instituation of kirvelik in Sivas consist of three chapter. In the first chapter, medical and cultural realities of circumcision operations in different geographical areas on earth, the meanings of these applications for the people that perform these traditions, and the application forms of these transactions in different religious fields and populations has been inquired. In addition, the theories asserted about the origin and nature of circumcision has been evaluated in a general framework.Themeanings of the institution of kirvelik in our country, functions of this institution, geographical area that it has disseminated and its transformations are too among the topics addressed in the first chapter. In the second chapter, the field of study has been limited and the circumcision ceremonies are discussed as a part of cultural life in Sivas. The elements of these ceremonies evaluated independently. In the third and last chapter, it has discussed the institution of kirvelik in a general framework and inquired the meanings of the kirvelik for the domestic people of Sivas.
