Abstract

Since the establishment of Turkish Republic, goverment became most dominant power to developed plastic arts. State, organized exhibitions for to motivate artists to create works and also bought art works from other exhibitions which were held in the period. For to spread art and culture to large masses, government encourage banks and public institutions to create art collections. Also, in this period it can be rarely seen, private collection formed by intellectuals. Between 1950-1970 artistic development has changed. In 1950, when Democrat Party came into power, states’ support of art and cultural events significantly decreased. This gap which was created by state filled by the initiatives of private entrepreneurs’ support. DYO Painting Competitions was the first extensive art competition in the country.Today, according to contemporary art environemt DYO Painting Competitions and Exhibitions' significant and leading character started to shows variability.
