Özet
Myra is an ancient town located within borders of Antalya province, on the western side of the gulf, southern side of Teke Peninsula and dating back to 5th century BC. It is known that Nikolaos born in Patara in the 4th century was bishop and buried in there after his death. According to the references of the 6th century, the Saint s Mausoleum and church became an important pilgrim center during early Christianity Period. Based on this fact the town was pronounced as the religious center of Lycia in the 5th century. According to the historians, after the earthquake of 529 the church dedicated to Saint Nikolaos was r and according to the researchers it was reconstructed as domed basilica at the earliest in the 8th century, and most probably was expanded by means of annexed buildings built after Zirids attacks in 1034.
