Abstract

In the The Problematic of Tradition in Contemporary Turkish Painting themed thesis, the concept of tradition in Modern Contemporary Turkish art has been discussed and an assessment has been made via a number of selected artists.It has been seen that in Modern Contemporary Turkish art, nearly in every period from Early Republican Period to today, there has been a contact with tradition in various ways; however, in some specific periods, certain notions such as memory, recollection, tradition, past history and identity have become prominent. On the other hand it has been observed that the relationships which the artists developed with the tradition have different motives reasons with the effect of political, social and cultural circumstances.
