ABSTRACT KARIMOVA, Shovket, Reasons of Suicide Attempts and Ways of Coping of Transgender İndividuals, Master Thesis, Ankara, 2019.
In this study, were questioned the causes of suicide attempts and the ways of coping with suicide attempts. The aim of this study was to determine the causes of suicide attempts and how they live after suicide. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with 12 (twelve) trans individuals who attempted suicide. Questions asked during the interviews; trans individuals' experiences of coming up, their reactions, their efforts to accept themselves to their environment and their families, the transition processes, the underlying causes of the attempted suicide, the decision-making processes related to their own bodies, and what strategies they have developed to sustain their lives after the suicide attempt. In today's societies, living conditions become more difficult for LGBTI individuals, especially transgender individuals, who are subjected to othering through hegemonic masculinity. This difficulty is found in the context of hate speech in society and this affects many different social areas. Individuals with different sexual orientations are exposed to social exclusion, and social exclusion can cause indirect suicide. When LGBT youth across the world and in Turkey exposed to social exclusion and not looking at the height of the rate of suicidal behavior in this case is obvious. (Köten, Erdoğan, 2015, p.143). In this context, it was seen that 12 trans individuals who attempted suicide attempted suicide in some periods of their lives either because of the pressures, difficulties they faced, or the feeling of being alone or not accepting. The efforts of transgender individuals to cope with the struggle to survive, the efforts to incorporate themselves into the patterns of 'masculinity' and 'femininity' accepted by the heterosexual society for gender change in order to gain a place in the society in order to gain a place for themselves in the society, that their social life forms only from their own trans-environment, or after identity change. It has been found that there are other protection mechanisms similar to these, in order to remove people who know their previous identities but who behave insensitive in their lives. Key words:
