Abstract
This in-vitro study investigates the marginal adaptation of all ceramic crown (In-Ceram Alumina, IPS e.max Press, Lava) restorations prepared with three different fabrication methods in anterior and posterior teeth before and after cementation. Prefabricated acrylic crowns, upper right central and upper right 1. molar tooth, were prepared according to the preparation methods and rules. Metal models of prepared crowns were made. Thirty anterior and thirty posterior epoxy resin tooth models were produced by duplication of these metal models. Anterior and posterior epoxy resin models were divided into 3 groups, 10 samples (n=10) for each ceramic group. InCeram Alumina, IPS e.max Press and Lava crowns were fabricated over these epoxy resin models as test specimens. Marginal gap of all crowns were measured vertically before cementation by using direct measurement technique. Buccal, lingual, mesial and distal measurements were made from photos of SEM images by using Image-J program. A total of 52 measurements were made for each crown and the mean values were calculated. Then, crowns were luted to the epoxy resin models with resin cement. Cemented crowns were kept in water at room temperature for 24 hours after cementation and then subjected to thermocycling in a water bath of 5±2°C and 55±2°C for 2000 cycles each. Marginal gap of all crowns were measured by using the same device and method after cementation. The results were statistically analysed. Marginal adaptation of crowns, which were prepared with three different fabrication methods, before and after cementation had no significant difference (p>0,05). In ceramic groups, independent from tooth location, the increase at marginal gap values of all crowns after cementation were found statistically significant compared to marginal gap values before cementation (p<0,05). In this study, comparisons were made among the anterior and posterior crown's marginal gap values of ceramic groups. Marginal gap of anterior In-Ceram Alumina crowns were significantly greater than posterior In-Ceram Alumina crowns before and after cementation (p<0,05). Marginal gap of anterior and posterior IPS e.max Press crowns had no significant difference before and after cementation (p>0,05). Marginal gap of anterior Lava crowns were significantly greater than posterior Lava crowns before cementation (p<0,05). In this study, comparisons of buccal, lingual, mesial and distal area measurements of crowns were also made. Marginal gap of four different areas in all crowns had no significant difference before cementation (p>0,05). Marginal gap of buccal and lingual areas were significantly greater than distal area in all crowns after cementation and marginal gap of buccal area were significantly greater than lingual area in all crowns after cementation (p<0,05).
