Sutura Sphenovomeralıs' ın Endoskopik Transsphenoidal ve Radyolojik Yöntemlerle Incelenmesi
Abstract
Rostrum of sphenoid bone articulates with ala of vomer forming schindylesis type of joint. The circumference of this joint is called sphenovomerine suture (SSV). Although this suture is mentioned in Terminologia Anatomica, there is no information about its structure in the text books. SSV helps to establish a reliable surgical field in the endoscopic transsphenoidal pituitary surgery which is accepted as a standard method of treatment for pituitary adenomas. Pituitary adenomas are benign tumors originating from cells of the adenohypophysis. These adenomas rank the third among intracranial tumors with a percent age of 10 to 15. Pituitary adenomas are the most common tumors in sellar and parasellar region. In this thesis, SSV has been reviewed by making measurements of paranasal computerized tomographies of the individuals with and without pituitary adenomas. 85 in the patient group and 150 in the control group, a total of 235 persons ranging between 21 to 50 ages have been included.
