In this art study; as a continuation of the local cultural heritage - which is re-interpreted in modern art practices - being carried onto the theatre stage, the "ashiq tradition" which is one of the deep-rooted oral traditions of Anatolian geography has been examined in terms of its historical and literary position, its form and its performance characteristics; and the theatrical equivalent of the "story-telling", which is part of this tradition, has been evaluated in the light of the analytical methods that theater anthropology provides to Western acting methodologies. With the information obtained, Dede Korkut’s story ‘Uşun Koca Oğlu Seğrek Boyunu Beyan Eder’ (The Story of Segrek: Son of Ushun Koja) has been turned into a modern narration as application and its stage application has been realized.
In addition, a hybrid form of performance has been created by combining the expression possibilities presented by the ashiq style conveyed through the master-apprentice tradition with the actors coming from the Western conventional education. In conclusion; it has been found that the traditional cultural activities combined with Western performance analysis techniques contribute to the performance content, and also that, when compared to the tradition itself, the change is a requirement for maintaining of the continuity of local culture and cultural values within the flow of history, and experience is also important in seeking different forms and presentations.
