This paper aims to examine cultural words which reflect cultural coding found in the novels directly translated from Turkish to Lithuanian. In this paper the classification and further analysis of cultural words was done using the methods of Peter Newmark as the model. The following books and their translations to Lithuanian were evaluated: The Black Book, Museum of Innocence, My Name is Red, Snow, A Strangeness in My Mind by Orhan Pamuk and The Wren by Reşat Nuri Güntekin. The paper consist of introduction, two main chapters and conclusion. In the first chapter special terms, the classification of cultural words, translation procedures given by Newmark and methods of analysis are described according to English and Turkish resources. In the second chapter analysis of the cultural words was done and examples were provided. The findings showed that not all the time cultural codes were understood correctly. Sometimes the part of meaning was lost during the process of translation. This led to translation shifts which were more or less far from the origin. However, some translations were successful.
