There are four basic skills; speaking, listening, reading and writing in foreign language
teaching. These four basic skills are divided into two as comprehension and narrative
skills. Listening and reading constitute the understanding skills and speaking and writing
constitute the expression skills. It is not possible to think these skill areas independently.
Foreign language learners are expected to use their speaking and writing skills in order to
see what and to what extent they understand and to evaluate them. This emphasizes the
necessity of developing writing skills. In addition to increasing the writing skills related
to the development of writing skills, it is necessary to determine the mistakes made by
the in their written expressions a nd to m inimize t hese errors. O ne of t he methods and
techniques used to identify and classify the mistakes of learners in written expressions is
error analysis. This study was carried out in order to analyze the mistakes made by the
learners in their written statements. In this study, written expressions of 27 Syrian learners
who were learning Turkish at B1 level in Batman University Continuing Education
Application and Research Center were formed. The mistakes made by Syrian learners in
their written narratives have been solved and classified in terms of phonological,
morphological, syntactic and spelling and punctuation mistakes. In the findings of the
research, it has been determined that the majority of the mistakes made by the learners
are about phonology and punctuation and spelling.
