The goal of this research is to examine whether the training called “Family guidance program aimed to prevent and to intervene the emotional abuse, prepared by being inspired on Rational Emotional Behavioral Approach” reduces the emotional abuse or not. This is experimental research with a control group in which the pretest-posttest design is used. 18 mothers, whose children attended their education in 7th and 8th grades in a state secondary school in Keçiören district of Ankara province in 2016-2017, participated in the research. The experimental study was carried out for six weeks in the form of 90-minute sessions once a week. The sessions were carried out in the secondary school, in which the students attended, in the extracurricular hours. The pretests had administered a week before the first session and posttest were administered 10 days later than the last session. The Child abuse potential inventory (Öner & Sucuoğlu, 1994) was administered as the pretest and posttest to determine how the mothers abuse their children emotionally. In addition, the Scale of Adult-Youth Relations (Alantar,1989) was administered to children to measure perceived emotional abuse from their parents. Due to the fact that the number of a participant in each group is less, the Mann-Whitney U test is used for the independent measurements, and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test is used for the repeated measurements. The result showed that the training reduces the emotional abuse behavior of parents, and the emotional abuse perceived by children from their parents.
