Legg-Calvé-Perthes Hastalığı Olan Çocuklarda Karotı̇s İntima Medı̇a Kalınlığının Değerlendı̇rilmesı̇
Abstract
Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) is a disease with no exact cause. Vascular pathology is accused in the etiology. Some public data have been published regarding that LCPD is related with increased cardiovascular and blood/blood forming organ disorder risks. So, carotid intima media thickness (cIMT) in 30 children with LCPD (group I) and 30 healthy subjects (group II) was measured. The range of age of the children studied was between 3-12 years of age. Mean age of LCPD and control group was 7,03 and 7,33, respectively. cIMT was compared between group I and group II. Mean cIMT for group I and Group II was 0,43±0,05 and 0,45±0,05, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between groups (p=0,198). 60 children in the study, then, were arranged as two groups formed in 3-7 years and 8-12 years of age fashion. 34 attenders in 3-7 years of age group and 26 attenders in 8-12 years of age group were evaluated according to cIMT differences. There was a significant difference statistically between two groups (p<0,05). In this study, no effect of the diseae on great artery walls in early period was shown. It is thought that this was due to techniqual issues of the study or early atherosclerotic changes have not occurred yet or the method couldn't show it. It is demonstrated that age was an important determinant in cIMT value changes. LCPD is a disease that involves vascular structure and increase cardiovascular risks. More studies should have been developed in order to precisely define the etiology of this disease and associated systemic diseases and make preventive programmes that lead to decreased mortality and morbidity.
