Septoplasti Sonrasında Tampon Kullanılan ve Kullanılmayan Hastalarda Yaşam Kalitesi ve Burun Içi Ödemin Karşılaştırılması
Abstract
Despite the controversies, intranasal packing is commonly used by most surgeons after septoplasty. The aim of this study is to compare the quality of life and intranasal edema of patients with or without nasal packing after septoplasty. Sixty-one patients older than 18 years of age were included in the study. The paitents were divided into 3 groups as 20 patients in totally occluding packing group, 20 patients in silicone packing with airway group and 21 patients in without any nasal packing group. In case of groups with nasal packing, the packing was removed on the 2nd postoperative day. All patients in the study had control meeting on the 2nd, 4th and 7th postoperative days, endoscopic examinations for the intranasal edema were recorded and the intranasal volume and minimum cross-sectional area was measured with acoustic rhinometry. All patients were required to answer quality of life questionnaire which was composed of pain, epiphora, sneezing, nasal obstruction, difficulty in swallowing and quality of sleep. Total occluding packing was found to be cause much more frequent and higher scores of epiphora, sneezing, difficulty in swallowing but mainly the pain compared to in silicone packing with airway and transseptal suture only. Besides the patients with total occluding packing had total nasal obstruction during the period with packing. Although the silicone packing with airway was found to be much more comfortable, it also led to sneezing and epiphora. The patients without nasal packing had more comfortable period especially in the early postoperative days (the first 4 days). However 1 week after surgery the patient groups with and without nasal packing were found to be equalized on behalf of the objective and subjective parameters.
