Professions are continuous, organized and conscious occupations that required special knowledge and skills to solve social problems and their members are able to control individual initiative and decision making processes and motivated to serve before the profit. These occupations have emerged in the past to fulfill certain social needs. By the effect of the rapid social change and technological developments that are experienced today, they are nowadays expected to meet the requirements with the least mistakes and in accordance with social needs of new era.
This expectation has led to the need of increasing the level of professionalization of the professions. When we examine the Turkish literature on professionalism, we see that almost all of the studies are on health (doctor and nurse) and education (teaching). In order to contribute to the Turkish literature on professionalism this study on professionalization and level of professionalism of private security oficers who are carrying out security service which is a social need has been carried out.
Within the scope of the study, special security will be examined as a profession and it is aimed to examine the relationship among occupational, personal and other characteristics that affect level of professionalism and develop suggestions to increase the level of professionalism satrting from the fact that members of profession who do their jobs professionally increases the value given to that profession by society and also by other professions and thus ensures continuity of the profession and special security officers professionalization.
