The study aimed to compare the situations for solving rocfall problems that a commercial software called Rocfall and a proprietary software called N-TEK that have been written in MATLAB is used qualitatively/quantitatively by using a case study. RocFall software allows the calculation of motions of singular blocks in 2 dimensions bu using the lumped mass approach and kinematic coefficients of restitutions (Rn, Rt). Similarly N-TEK software uses the lumped mass approach but allows the related motion calculations by using spring (kx, ky) and damping (cx, cy) coefficients and force models. By using remote sensing methods digital elevation model of the study area have been formed, field studies and back-analyses studies have been conducted to determine the input parameters for both of the softwares. Field studies were comprised of high-speed camera recordings and mesaurement of displacements for related engineering geology units. The usage of high-speed camera images for determining the coefficients of restitutions which have to be defined for the widely used RocFall Software have been concluded to be insufficient because of the susceptibility of the method against user errors and lack of ability to determine the impact and rebound velocities of the moving block. By using back-analyses methods, the related normal and tangential coefficients of resititutions have been determined for the engineering geology units that are present in the study-area. Determination of the variables used in the suggested motion model defined for the engineering geology units as spring and damping coefficients by using the deformation values measured during the field tests was not possible due to the lack of mathematical solution of the problem. Comparison of both motion models qualitatively and quantitavely have not been possible but related explanations about the situation have been explicitly presented in the study.
