Abstract
The purpose of this research is to reveal the factors that contribute to the violence that is being waged by their husbands to women who are helped by the foundation of social assistance and solidarity. For this reason, the research is important in terms of revealing the situation and factors of peer violence against women in poor families. In the theoretical section of the research, general information about poverty and the title of women's poverty are included. Besides, the concepts of violence against women are explained, the types of violence towards women are mentioned, and the relation between poverty and violence against women is evaluated. However, ecological system approach and empowerment approach were discussed as basic approaches of social service in the prevention of sexual violence against women in poor families, protection of women, empowerment and interventions for interaction with systems around women.
Research is the general screening model. The questionnaire developed by the researcher and tailored for the purpose of the research was administered to 118 women who received help from SYDV. The input, analysis and classification of the data obtained through the questionnaire were solved by the "SPSS 20.0" (Statistical Program for Social Sciences) program in the computer environment. Findings of the study, number and percentage values were prepared and tabulated. Within the scope of the analysis, frequency tables, cross tables and chi-square test were used. There was a statistically significant difference between the variables and this correlation was tested by a chi-square analysis. The findings of the survey included findings of the socio-demographic characteristics of the women and their families interviewed, the socio-demographic characteristics of the violence, the causes of violence against women in the family, and factors affecting these factors.
According to the results obtained in the research; the reality of poverty emerges as a situation directly affecting and increasing the violence against women. In this context of poor families, spousal violence against women stands out above the Turkey average. Factors influencing spousal violence have been questioned within the scope of the research. Given that poverty and violence against women are two phenomena that affect each other, spousal violence against women appears to be a multi-dimensional concept in poor families. Poverty and situations that cause spousal violence towards women, in particular, lead to factors that cause violence towards women in poor families. In this context, it is directly affecting women's inability to access education opportunities, incapability of participation in labor market, working in low quality jobs and having low income, exploitation of labor in the household, individual and psychological characteristics of partner, and violence against partner women in partner families. This, in turn, puts women in the position of being the most basic applicant of social assistance in order to be in poverty and to meet the basic needs of their children. In this context, women are exposed more and more individually and socially, both in combating poverty and in domestic violence.
