In the past, the children seemed to be adults. New studies were made on the child from day to day. These studies were also relevant to the cognitive development of the child. Piaget’s studies of cognitive development help us to understand how children perceive the world around them at different ages. Cognitive development allows the child to understand the world and apply what they learn in real life. So cognitive development should be supported in various ways. In these ways literature is the most impressive way for children. Books for children are increasing day by day. A quality literary work should teach the child the facts of life so it gains cognitive value. We can say “children’s literature” to works that contribute to the development of the child with a clean native language. Especially after the 1950’s, this area has taken a modern form in Turkey an reached countless works of children’s literature today. Children’s literature today is one of the areas of interest in the world and Turkey.
