This thesis prepared to evaluate the qualitative transformation of news that claims to be public discourse through concrete news samples by way of discussions of public space and public discourse. News and journalism have begun to gain a different dimension with the impact of new communication Technologies nowadays. Liberal and crtical approaches work on news media, compromise that the news is factual. News is factual, so news production processes should also be conducted within the framework of professionalism. The news is separated from other texts, claiming to be a secular, rational and scientific text. The features that differentiate the news from literary texts are that they have a number of norms such as truth, balance, objectivity. In the thesis, it is suggested that the qualitative transformation of the news takes place with the erosion of the principles that form the public discourse.This study reveals why news is a type of public discourse, and traces what news is and what it is today.
For this purpose, the related literature is searched and the discursive analysis of the news that "activists drunk in the mosque" and "a headscarfed woman was attacked by activists in Kabataş" which is located in the central/mainstream media in the period of Gezi Park protests is carried out. Interviews were maked with the editors of Teyit.org and Doğrulukpayı.com. Besides, the news analyzed in Teyit.org and Doğrulukpayı.com, known as platforms that combat lying news and discourse in the field of fact-checking and verification, which constitute the two legs of the verification function in order to investigate how the principle of truth on news is eroded.
