Fantastik Animasyon Sinemasında “Matte Painting” Tasarımı
Özet
Fantastic animated cinema, which is about the images of a non-existent universe or a universe desired to have existed, by exhibiting a common structure with the imagination arising from the oldest fears and feelings of mankind; presents its viewers an alternative world fiction far beyond the perceived world. "Matte Painting Design" performed as belonging to this world undertakes an important role and enables the viewer to be easily embodied in this structure.
'Matte Painting Design' in Fantastic Animated Cinema has been completed at the end of a work and research process that approximately lasted for two and a half years. In this process, it has been observed that the matte designs applied in the animations art shaped according to the culture, time, geographical and philosophical considerations in which the animation is produced. While matt designs are being developed, the traditional methods have been featured, it has been ensured the movable front layer and the fixed back layer are merged on the digital platform and it has become clear that the matte design is not a simple technique or a concept merely monopolized by the cinema sector. The idea that cinema can not keep the matte concept in its own structure and that the productions with fantastic animation fiction also benefit from mattes has been put forth and "INFERNO", which is a sample application that supports this idea has been brought into action at the end of the study.
The issues such as; topic, period features, color, texture, character design, motion and camera angles which have been considered while creating a sample animation project during the research process of the thesis and later on, have been determined after a long sketch and research process. The INFERNO chapter of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy has set the stage for the screenplay phase and the stage of production has been completed with a dramatic structure technique that takes the viewer towards the tragic fiction.
Approximately 468 drawings and matte designs have been performed in digital environment over a period of ten months, and the most suitable one has been selected among four different typography examples developed and turned into font after being named as "INFERNO". The theoretical parts of the thesis have been investigated by the method of literature review, different samples and fictions have also been examined for the application part and the design has been created by design analysis method. It is believed that the thesis will guide the researchers and interested parties who want to work in this field and cannot find any theoretical resources by virtue of research studies and examples to be presented by the thesis.
