Duyusal İşlemleme Ölçeği Okul Öncesi Ev Formunun Türkçe Uyarlamasının Geçerlik ve Güvenirliği
Abstract
The present study aims to determine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Sensory Processing Measure Pre-School Home Form (SPM-P-HF) through the Turkish translation of the text and the intercultural adaptation. The measure evaluates the sensory processing replies of pre-school children between ages 2 and 5. The study includes 115 typically developing children (TD) and 50 children in the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Beaton’s 6-step procedure was used for translation and intercultural adaptation. After the steps of the procedure were completed, the scale was sent to the Western Psychological Services (WPS), which owns the publication rights. Once the required controls and corrections were made, the meaure was finalized. The tests we carried out to measure the internal consistency and the validity and reliability analyses showed that the SPM-P-HF measure was found to be highly reliable (92%). It has been observed that the scale items could be grouped under 7 factors in the Varimax Rotation Exploratory Factor Analysis and that the SPM-P-HF variance could be explained by 41.68%. The repeatability and the temporal invariance of SPM-P-HF have been studied through biweekly tests and repeated test applications and the invariance was found out to be on an excellent level (ICC:0952; p=0.001). In order to show the distinctiveness of the SPM-P-HF grades, the results belong of the TD children and children in the same age group with ASD have been compared based on their gender and ages. It was found that SPM-P-HF is a sensitive measure distinguishing the TD children and children with ASD (p<0,01). As a result, it was found that SPM-P-HF is a valid and reliable evaluation scale in Turkish that can be used to evaluate the differences in sensory processing of pre-school children between ages 2 and 5.
