Written or visual signs in public spaces attract the attention of many groups. Since the early 2000s, a new field of research has emerged to examine public space signs. This field, known as Linguistic Landscape, can be translated into Turkish as dilsel manzara (linguistic landscape) or dilsel görünüm (linguistic appearance). Linguistic landscape studies have emerged as a subfield of sociolinguistics. They focus on signs with writing or visuals in public spaces. This field, which can relate to various disciplines, is rapidly growing in terms of theory and approaches.
In this study, the reflection of Ankara’s linguistic landscape in social media and people's perceptions and attitudes towards the visibility of language in public spaces were examined through Durk Gorter’s MIPS (Multilingual Inequalities in Public Spaces) model. The data related to Ankara were collected from the social media platform X and internet news sources. Discourse analysis was conducted based on case studies.
