This study was conducted using a developmental research design (based on analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation steps) to develop a decision support system (N-Care) for student nurses' care plan preparation skills. In this context, the study group of the user opinions collection phase of the analysis phase of the research consisted of 27 nursing students studying in the second, third and fourth years and 8 instructors. The study group of the pre-implementation phase, which was carried out in the implementation step, consisted of 10 nursing students studying in the third and fourth years. The study group of the the parallel design post-test control group phase in the implementation step consisted of 41 second-year nursing students (control group=21, intervention group=20). The evaluation step was carried out with 20 students in the intervention group. Data for the analysis step were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Form (instructor/student) and Semi-Structured Interview Questions (instructor/student). In the collection of data in the Implementation and Evaluation steps; System Usability Scale, Descriptive Characteristics Form (student), Nursing Care Plan Evaluation Case (post-test) and N-Care system evaluation form (for the Intervention Group) were used. Thematic analysis method was used in the analysis of qualitative data obtained from various stages of the research, and descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of quantitative data. The findings obtained from the research are given under three main headings: Findings Regarding the Structure and Functioning of the System, Findings Regarding the Validation of the System, Findings Regarding Improvement. In the findings regarding the Structure and Functioning of the System, the features that the system should have were decided and the software was developed in line with the data obtained from the literature and interviews with instructors/students. In the findings regarding validation, firstly, it was determined that the usability of the system was at a very good level (87.75%) as a result of the pilot application. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained from the evaluation of the effectiveness of the system in preparing the care plan, it was determined that the scores obtained from the planning stage (Z=-3.041, p=0.002, r=0.475) and total scores (Z=-2.284, p=0.022, r=0.357) of the intervention group were significantly higher than the control group. In the findings regarding improvement, it was stated that some tabs in the system should be reviewed in order to record data faster and easier. In the study, the N-Care system was developed and it was concluded that the system has the potential to improve the care plan preparation skills of nursing students. In line with these results, it is recommended to plan a study with larger groups to determine the effectiveness of the N-Care system.
