Abstract
ARISAN, A. Evaluation of the efficacy of tooth movement with a fully customized self ligating lingual orthodontic appliance. Hacettepe University, Faculty of dentistry, Department of Orthodontics, Speciality Thesis, Ankara, 2017. The aim of our study is to evaluate the treatment efficacy of the customized self ligating lingual orthodontic appliance. 20 dental models of 10 individuals who were treated in our clinic with a customized self ligating lingual orthodontic appliance were scanned with an optical scanner and digital models were obtained. Digital initial models (T0), set-up models (TS), and final models (T1) were superimposed with best-fit method in the reverse engineering software. The deviations in rotation and translation of each tooth between the initial model (T0) and the set-up model (TS) were compared with the deviations in rotation and translation of each tooth between the initial model (T0) and the final model (T1). Differences between groups were analyzed by paired sample t-test because the data were normally distributed. The Bland-Altman test was performed to assess the consistency between measurements. While the initial set-up for the front teeth is highly compatible with the outcome of the treatment, there were some statistically significant differences in some translational and rotational movements in the posterior teeth, but these differences are not at the level of reducing the effectiveness of the treatment. The final results following lingual orthodontic treatment using fully customized self ligating lingual orthodontic appliance correlate satisfactorily with the inital set-ups.
