Abstract
İZOĞLU, A. Health Literacy in Adolescents Between 15-17 Years, Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences Ms.A. Thesis in Child Development and Education, Ankara 2017. In this study, it is aimed to demonstrate what is known about the concepts that reveal the health literacy level of adolescents aged 15-17, what they have experienced about health and informations provided by these experiences, develop hypotheses about which variables can play a role on this topic and establish the basis of the research to develop tools related to health literacy in the future. The research group of the study is composed of 24 adolescents between the ages of 15-17 who study in 6 high schools in Ankara- Çankaya district during the 2016-2017 academic year. A "Semi-Structured İnterview Form", one of the qualitative data collection tools, was used in accordance with the purpose of the study. The interview form consists of seven main themes: Introduction, Health, Acquiring and Implementing Information, Illness, Health Institution, Patient Rights and Recommendations. The research was carried out with a qualitative research design. The research data were analyzed by content analysis method. As a result of the research, it has been seen that adolescents have difficulty to convey their health knowledge and experiences. In addition to this, it has been seen that information and experiences about health are expressed more in detail by adolescents who do frequent sports, have working mothers or parents working in the health field, go to the hospital very often and have relatives with chronic illness. It has been suggested that parents should be aware of the issue, expanding the content of the Health Information lesson, and organizing seminars by health personnel.
