Özet
The understanding of art that makes it possible to exhibit an ordinary object that was not produced for art as an art object is closely related to Marcel Duchamp's fountain artwork. In this study, it is aimed to discuss the use of ready-made objects in art through found objects, personal objects, mass production objects, and to reveal the intellectual context that makes this use possible.
The aim of the thesis is to investigate why and how the art material known as ready-made used by artists in their works and to try to reveal the basis of this practice in the field of art. If it is possible to present this ground the mysterious curtain of the enigmatic world what we call “art” will be opened to some extent in the semantic dimension and rich discussion areas and research topics regarding ready-made object applications in art will be revealed.
Theories, World of Meaning and Practices are three main topics of the thesis. In the Theories section, mimetic problematic in Plato discussed within the framework of contemporary philosopher Arthur C. Danto. World of Meaning is the main section about semantics of ready-mades. Practices’ first topic is devoted to ready-made practices of the artists based on “the bed” example given by Plato in his Socratic dialogue, the second subsection is about critical ready-made practices throughout contemporary art history and the last subsection contains the analysis of my works produced within the framework of the use of ready-made objects as a personal-political attitude.
