KARA, Sevgi. Investigation of Occupational Therapy Efficacy in Upper Extremity Burns with Canadian Model of Occupational Performance Approach, Hacettepe University, Graduate School of Health Sciences Occupational Therapy Program, PhD Thesis, Ankara, 2023. This study was planned to examine the effectiveness of the Canadian Model of Occupational Performance (CMOP) one of the occupational therapy approach models, in upper extremity burns. The study was performed with 40 individuals aged 18-65 years who applied to the hospital for treatment with second and third degree burns on both upper extremities. Individuals were randomly assigned to two groups: The Intervention group (n=20) which received CMOP and the control group (n=20), which was followed up with the home program. Occupational performance and satisfaction levels of individuals were evaluated with the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), upper extremity functionality with the Michagan Hand Outcome Questionnaire (MHQ), quality of life with SF-36 Quality of Life Scale and the environment with the semi-structured environmental assessment scale. The COPM interventions, were planned by taking into account the performance areas in which individuals have problems with occupational participation. The intervention group received an intervention program using the COPM approach 3 times a week for 8 weeks. On the other hand the control group was followed up with counseling once a week. In conclusion, in the evaluations between the groups after the intervention, statistically significant improvement was found in favor of the intervention group in the level of occupational performance and satisfaction (p<0,01), upper extremity functionality (p<0,01) and quality of life (p<0,01). In this study, it was found that COPM, which is one of the occupational therapy approach models, applied to individuals after upper extremity burns, increases occupational performance and satisfaction, improves functionality in the upper extremities and improves quality of life, while environmental interventions contribute positively to occupational performance and satisfaction, functionality and quality of life.
