Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationships between marital infidelity, spousal support, marriage relationship quality and sexual life dissatisfaction by structural equation modeling technique. In addition to this, Marital Infidelity Scale and Marriage Relationship Quality Perception Scale were developed within the scope of this study. The study group of the research consisted of 610 married individuals who agreed to participate in the research in 2019. Data were gathered through Marital Infidelity Scale, Marriage Relationship Quality Perception Scale, Spouse Support Scale and Personal Information Form created by the researcher. In the analysis of the research data, SPSS 20.0, LISREL 8.7 and AMOS statistical programs were used. During the development of the Marital Infidelity Scale and the Marriage Relationship Quality Perception Scale, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was performed. Additionaly, the structural equation modeling was used to reveal the predictive power and mediating role between the variables. The results of the study demonstrated that Marital Infidelity Scale and Marriage Relationship Quality Perception Scale, which were developed on married individuals in Turkey culture, were found to be a valid and reliable measurement tools. In addition, according to the model test, spousal support and marriage relationship quality directly and significantly predicted marital infidelity. Also, it was found that spousal support significantly predicted marital infidelity with the mediating role of marriage relationship quality. Another finding obtained from the model indicated that spousal support and sexual life dissatisfaction significantly predicted the marriage relationship quality. Also, spousal support significantly predicted marriage relationship quality with the mediating role of sexual life dissatisfaction. The findings showed that the marital fidelity model test was acceptable. In the light of the findings, suggestions were made for researchers, practitioners, married individuals and family/marriage policy-makers.
