Cultural buildings are the spaces which dominate and symbolize the collective
values and relations of the society as public spaces where urban culture is shaped
and provide an opportunity and environment for interactions in social life. These
symbols become concrete in human realization and create expressive forms. In
public area, the reflection of this environment is usually seen in religious buildings
and cultural structures. For they have a formal construction identity and at the same
time representative and lexical values, these places become symbols of their
countries which are located in the capitals. In this thesis study, the concept of
"culture" that shapes life and spaces, its interaction with culture-space, and the
concepts of "cultural structure" which is in the status of public space are
analyzed. Then, by doing a literature review, the situations of the symbolic cultural
buildings such as cultural center, museum, library, theater, opera, orchestra
building, etc., which were constructed in the capitals of the countries to which they
belonged and which were equivalent to the structure subject to the thesis, were
evaluated in parallel with the changes and developments in the fields of science,
technology, culture and art. within this framework, with the announcement of the
Republic in our country, cultural buildings that came into existence due to the
arrangements that were carried out to make culture and art accessible by the
society, were built in the capital Ankara and protect their symbolic value today. In
this context, in order to test the features of "CSO ADA" which is a cultural building
that has been recently built in Ankara the capital of our country, provides a public
and symbolical response, and the factors which form the symbolical qualification of
the main foyer and concert halls which form the main backbone of the construction
group, style and space analysis are included within the frame of "design principles".
