Tıp Fakültesi Öğrencilerinin LGBTİQ+ Bireylerin Eğitim Süreçlerine Yönelik Algılarının İncelenmesi
Özet
The concept of LGBTIQ+ in today's world encompasses individuals who do not conform to the traditional gender roles of male and female, bringing together various sexual identities under one umbrella. LGBTIQ+ individuals are at a disadvantage in terms of their education, access to healthcare, and other areas. This study, prepared to describe the perceptions of medical students regarding the educational process of LGBTIQ+ individuals, was conducted as a qualitative research using accessible situation sampling and snowball sampling methods. The research group was formed with voluntary participation from undergraduate students enrolled in the medical program at Hacettepe University School of Medicine during the 2022-2023 academic year. Semi-structured interview forms were used for in-depth individual interviews, and the data obtained were evaluated through thematic content analysis. The findings of the study support previous research. However, it was observed that the participants in our study had different perceptions regarding definitions and concepts, and these individuals showed sensitivity in terms of discourse. The findings of the study indicate that there is no discriminatory/different/negative behavior towards individuals with different sexual orientations/identities by faculty members/instructors in the educational environment. Different attitudes were not observed towards individuals with different sexual orientations during their education. The findings obtained from the research indicate that the problems faced by LGBTIQ+ individuals are a result of social discrimination. It demonstrates that creating an environment that accepts and supports LGBTIQ+ individuals would contribute positively to reducing discrimination and negative behavior. In this research, it has been emphasized that combating prejudice and discrimination is important to find solutions to the problems faced by LGBTIQ+ individuals, and education emerges as the most crucial factor in removing the barriers in front of LGBTIQ+ individuals.
