Çocuk Refahı Alanında Çalışan Meslek Elemanlarının Toplumsal Cinsiyet Konusundaki Tutum ve Görüşleri
Abstract
People cannot decide about which sex they will be of. But from the first moment of the birth, the qualities such as clothing style, life style, economic situation etc. are to be determined based on the child’s sex by the society and especially by the family. In other words, discrimination by sex starts before birth and continues through the life. This discrimination begins within the family and keeps showing its effect in a lot of institutions and organizations present in the society.
The purpose of this research is to understand what professionals who work in the field of child welfare think about gender and what is their attitude about gender. For this purpose, the research was conducted with the quantitative research technique. The research was based on volunteerism. 9 child development specialists, 12 sociologists, 24 psychologists, 29 social workers and 31 teachers who work in the field of child welfare attended this research. The findings of the study were interpreted in the SPSS program.
According to this study, professionals working in the field of child welfare have in generel an traditional idea on the topic of gender mainstreaming, but some profesionals, especially teachers, have discriminatory attitudes towards LGBT individuals. 4 teachers and 1 social worker who work in the field of child welfare in Adana, did not want to participate in the survey, stating that the research questions were too sexual. In this research, the younger and single professionals proved to have more egalitarian ideas than the married and older professionals. In the research conducted, it has been revealed that the professionals should be informed about gender and should have awareness.
