Ayas, S., Evaluation of the Effect of Simulation-Based Interprofessional
Education for Senior Medical and Nursing Students on Team Performance in
Advanced Life Support Case Management. Hacettepe University Graduate
School of Health Sciences, Simulation Program in Health Sciences, Master
Thesis, Ankara, 2023. This study aims to enable senior medical and nursing students
to experience emergency service management with a holistic approach at the end of
simulation-based interprofessional education and to develop clinical decision-making
skills and proficiency related to advanced life support and to evaluate their
performance. 11 students from Uludag University 2021-2022 Academic Year Faculty
of Medicine and 9 senior students from the Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing
Department participated in the research. In the first stage of pre-training, the students
took part in the advanced life support case management scenario by first forming a
team within their own profession and forming interprofessional groups in the second
stage. In the training phase, theoretical courses on the importance of interprofessional
education, duties, authorities and responsibilities, emergency case management,
management of arrest rhythms were conducted, and skill training practices such as
basic life support, advanced airway opening and safe defibrillation were included.
After the theoretical explanation and applications, advanced life support scenarios in
which medical and nursing students work together were realized. Focus group
interviews were held before the scenario practices (with 15 students) and after the
training (with 11 students). As a result, it was observed that with the application of
simulation-based interprofessional education before graduation, the importance of a
holistic approach in patient management, team leadership and teamwork is
comprehended, theoretical knowledge can be transfered into practice, and their selfconfidence, experience, competence and performance increase.
