In this study, Dual Mode Filter (DMF) structures operating in Ka-Band were designed,
manufactured and measured, and also simulation and measurement results were
compared. In the first stage of the thesis, a DMF was designed by using two vacuum filled
cavities coupled to each other via a cross iris. At this stage, two types of filters were
designed. One of them did not have tuning screws in the cross iris and the other one had
tuning screws. In the first stage of the design, the dimensions of the structure were
calculated in 3-dimensional (3D) simulator by using the coupling matrix approach. In
order to obtain the desired frequency characteristics, filter dimensions were optimizated
according to the 3D simulation results. In order to make the filter bandwidth and the
positions of the Finite Transmission Zeros (FTZ) adjustable, tuning screws were added
to the cross iris as a new approach in the literature. In the second stage, dielectric
resonators (DR) were added to each of the vacuum filled cavities and two types of Dual
Mode Dielectric Resonator Filter (DMDRF) structures were designed, with and without
tuning screws at the cross iris. 3D simulation and measurement results were compared.
For the mounting of DRs on the source/load coupling slots, mounting protrusion were
defined as a new approach in the literature.
