Ayata, D., Investigation of the Relationship of Psychological Resilience with Internalized Stigma and Anger of Patients with Schizophrenia, Hacettepe University, Institute of Health Sciences Psychiatry Nursing Master's Thesis, Ankara, 2023.
This research was carried out as a correlational study in order to determine the relationship between internalized stigma and anger with psychological resilience of patients with schizophrenia. The research data were collected from a total of 125 people who were members of schizophrenia associations, diagnosed with schizophrenia and in the remission period. Data were collected using the descriptive information form, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale, Trait Anger and Anger Expression Scale. Categorical variables are presented using the frequency tests and descriptive statistics are showed for numerical variables. The normality assumptions of numerical variables are examined using the Kolmogorov Smirnov normality test and it is found to be normally distributed. The relationships between variables were examined with the Pearson correlation coefficient and the effect of psychological well-being on internalized stigma and anger was examined with a simple linear regression model. Statistical significance was interpreted at the level of 0.05 in all the analyses. According to the results of the research, it was observed that there were significant relationships between the psychological well-being of schizophrenia patients and the levels of internalized stigma and anger. In addition, it was determined that psychological well-being predicted the level of internalized stigma but not the level of anger. Based on these results, it can be said that the psychological well-being levels of schizophrenia patients are related to and affect the levels of internalized stigma and anger. Therefore, it is suggested that approaches aimed at supporting psychological well-being should be used in the evaluation and management of the levels of internalized stigma and anger in schizophrenia patients.
