This study aimed to draw attention to the issue of supporting bilingual students, who are
thought to have difficulties in Turkish lessons, with the help of the skill-based approach,
materials and activities used in foreign language teaching. For this purpose, studies on
the phenomenon of bilingualism were examined, the dynamics of teaching a foreign
language and second language were discussed, the Ministry of National Education 7th
and 8th Grade Turkish Textbooks and Yedi İklim A2-B1-B2, Istanbul B1-B2, Yeni Hitit
Based on the comparison of certain overlapping units and themes in the A2-B1 books,
suggestions are given that the activities, materials and practices in foreign language
teaching can be used by bilingual students in Turkish lessons, especially if needed for
skill-oriented acquisitions. In this context, the extent to which the awareness of bilingual
students can increase can be determined not only by the concrete aspects of the language;
At the same time, it is discussed in this study that it can develop in abstract aspects such
as its intellectual world and cognitive dimension.
In our current study, a different perspective was presented on bilingualism and teaching
Turkish to bilinguals, which focused on certain topics in the local literature, and
suggestions were made such as summer schools, clubs, activities, materials and course
hours that could be developed in this context
