Abstract
The Gülbahçe and Kuşçular-Urla Fault Zones are the most important structures in the Karaburun peninsula of Western Anatolia and are composed of series of NW-SE to NE-SW trending faults, extending from Sığacık Bay in the south to Gülbahçe Bay in the north. Researching and discussing neotectonic characteristics and seismic activity of the parts of Gülbahçe Fault Zone near İzmir Institute of Technology (IYTE) and northwestern parts of Kuşçular- Urla Fault Zones constitute the main subject of this research.Rock units in the study area are divided into two main grups: basement and cover rocks. The Nohutalan Formation and rocks of The Bornova Flysch Zone form the basement rocks. The cover units, Lower-Middle Miocene Yağcılar formation, Lower Miocene Gülbahçe volcanics, Middle-Upper Miocene Urla volcanics and Pleistocene Ballıkaya conglomerate unit cover the basement with in angular unconformity. Alluvial fans, talus and alluvium form the recent deposits.
