Syntax is the sub-branch of linguistics that studies the structure of sentences and the elements in a
sentence. Within the research area of the syntax, there is the internal structure of the sentence and the
phrases that make up the sentence. The components of the sentence are the language units into which the sentence can be separated, such as the constituent elements of the sentence, words and phrases. Words and phrases are the most prominent components of the sentence. The meaning conveyed by the sentence becomes clear by determining its phrase structure. In this study, Tuvan phrases, one of the Southern Siberian Turkic languages, are discussed from the perspective of Universal Grammar. The study has two main focuses. Firstly, the different and original aspects of the phrases in the sources were examined according to the Traditional Grammar. The second focus of the study is to determine the classification of phrases according to the Universal Grammar approach, which is based on modern linguistic theories. The examination and analysis part of the study is the examination of Tuvan phrases based on the determined phrases classification. The types of phrases determined according to Universal Grammar are: noun phrase (NP), adjective phrase (AP), adverbial phrase (AdvP), pre/postpositional phrase (PP) and verb phrase (VP). These phrase types were evaluated in terms of syntactic structure, morphology, morphophonology and syntactic functions.
