Arif Hikmet Koyunoğlu: Eserleri ve Mimari Yaklaşımı

In our thesis study, Arif Hikmet Koyunoğlu’s life, architectural activities and architectural writing were discussed and intended to do a monographic study on him. Koyunoğlu became active in the late periods of the Ottoman State and gained his true recognition during the Republic. In 1920, he contributed to the identification of the urban silhouette of the capital Ankara with his works in the first National Architecture period. Until the beginning of 1930, he continued to provide works of this style in Ankara, Eskisehir, Kutahya and Istanbul. In Ankara, Bursa and Istanbul, he has adapted to his modern architectural style, and continued his attitude with the Art-Deco and the second National Architecture period. Besides the public and civil building designs of Koyunoğlu, there are construction projects, repair projects, monuments, fouantain and tombstone designs. He wrote 37 architectural articles between 1927-1982 and conveyed his thoughts on architecture environment, architectural production and architecture of his period. Koyunoğlu, who was prominent as an architect, has professionally been a ski instructor and a photographer. In our study, Koyunoğlu's architectural design, architectural style characteristics are determined and aims to demonstrate architectural understanding, historical understanding and architectural approach through architectural writing.
