Çağlar, E., Turkish Adaptation of Interoception Sensory Questionnaire and
Investigating Its Psychometric Properties in Young Adults, Hacettepe University
Graduate School of Health Sciences Neurology Physiotherapy Program, Master
Thesis, Ankara 2022. The aim of our study is to create the Turkish version of the
Interoception Sense Questionnaire (ISQ), to examine its reliability and validity, and to
investigate the relationship of interoception with mood, body awareness, and quality
of life in young adults. A total of 349 (253 female, 96 male) people aged between 20-
40 (25.995.78) were included in the study.. After the Turkish version of the ISQ was
created, test-retest reliability, internal consistency and construct validity were
examined. In the analyzes performed, it was determined that the ISQ consisted of 3
sub-dimensions, its internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.920) was excellent,
and the test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.77) was good. The construct validity of the scale
was investigated by hypothesis tests and moderate correlation between ISQ and Body
Awareness Questionnaire, Toronto Alexithymia Scale and Beck Depression Inventory
(r-0.462, r=0.482, r=0.428, p<0.05, respectively), low-moderate correlation between
Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3 (r =0.394 p<0.05) found. Gender, relationship status,
alcohol and cigarette use were found to affect interoception in the analyzes (p<0.05).
In addition, a positive, moderate correlation was found between interoception and
quality of life. As a result, it has been shown that ISQ is a reliable and valid
questionnaire in evaluating interoception, that in healthy individuals, gender,
relationship status, alcohol and cigarette use affect interoception, and there is a
correlation between interoception and quality of life. A scale that can comprehensively
evaluate interoception has been added to the Turkish literature.
