In this study, it was aimed to determine the resilience perceptions of academics and to investigate the relationship between resilience and leadership in the state universities. The research is conducted with the contribution of 390 faculty member during the 2018-2019 academic year from the Ankara University, Hacettepe University, METU and Gazi Universities of the Ankara province. In this research, as the data collection tools, “Resiliency Scale” which was developed by the researcher and “Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire” developed by Bass and Avolio (1995) and adapted to Turkish by Mehmet Korkmaz (2005) were used. Frequency, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation and Multiple Regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. According to the results of the research, “Proactivity” is the highest mean and “Inner discipline” is the lowest mean dimensions of resiliency scale. Faculty members’ inner discipline dimension of resiliency perception has showed a meaningful difference according to their academic positions. It has been determined that self-confidence-personal competence, positivity-empathy, proactivity, interpersonal interaction, espousing and development subscales has no meaningful difference according to academic position. It has been concluded that, “Inspirational Motivation” dimension has the highest point and “Laissez Faire” dimension has the lowest point among the sub-dimensions of leadership perception. It has been determined that there weren’t meaningful differences between the opinions of academicians on their academic position related to leadership scale. In the study, it was revealed that the resilience perceptions of the faculty members were a significant predictor of their sense of leadership. According to the standardized regression coefficients (β), the order of importance of predictor variables in explaining the understanding of leadership; Positivity-Empathy, Internal Discipline, Proactivity, Interpersonal Interaction, Self-Confidence-Personal Competence, Development and Acceptance.
In this study, some suggestions were made to strengthen the faculty members’ resiliency perception and to develop their leadership skills according to the results of the research.
